ACU The Army Combat Uniform (ACU) is the current combat uniform worn by the United States Army. Woodland camouflage is four color U.S. pattern designed in 1948 and later revisited for use in the Vietnam War. Named ERDL lear pattern, it was first issued to elite reconnaissance and special operation units in early 1967. It is the successor to the BDU. A lensatic compass maintains a primary function of taking accurate bearings for land navigation. An additional function of this compass is to direct artillery fire. For these reasons, it is a highly coveted piece of equipment used by the military. A kind of compass that uses a magnetized dial, a lensatic compass features a special card that helps users read the directions easily. This device is very useful because it has numbers, which are very useful in identifying the directions of target objects. The Lensatic Compass, the most common military instrument for measuring direction, was first in use during World War II, an evolution of the pre-war Compass, Prismatic M-1938. The compass is comprised of three major components: the cover, the base and the lens. The cover serves the purpose of protecting the compass rose dial.
