The original design of the jerrycan proved far more superior over other fuel containers and was subsequently used in all theatres of war around the world. Hydration Systems & Packs

Hydration Systems & Packs

Clean, fresh drinking water is essential to human and other life. To function properly, the body requires between one and seven liters of water per day to avoid dehydration; the precise amount depends on the level of activity, temperature, humidity, and other factors. In recreation and other sustained outdoor activities, a hydration system is intended to promote its user's drinking enough liquid to support the physical effort involved in the activity. Hydration systems are flexible bladders filled with water connected to a hose to drink from. A basic hydration system is in a protective fabric shell, so that the bladder is unlikely to be damaged by other gear that it shares with the interior of an ordinary pack. Hydration systems are refillable; most hydration systems are refilled by the unscrewing of a cap. Hydration systems also feature a bite valve which helps start and stop the flow of liquid through the hose with minimum effort. Hydration systems are ideal items for outdoor activities to keep hydrated. Many of our hydration systems are compatible with brands such as Venturer, Blackhawk and Camelback systems. A "hydration-system compatible" backpack is a pack that will usually feature a hole through the pack, near the upper anchoring point of the pack's shoulder straps, sized for the hose and bite valve to pass through it, and often covered by a flap that prevents rain entering the pack through it. As part of an integrated design, incorporating both a backpack and the hydration system (usually sold together as a hydration pack), usually with at least a few pockets-worth of storage space for other items. Such a combination is likely to have a channel inside one or both shoulder straps, for the hose to pass through, preventing the hose from tangling with other gear or the environment, and ameliorating the annoyance of the liquid warming up while waiting in the hose to be drunk next, or the problem of it freezing. Hydration packs are also referred to as a military hydration pack, hydration carrier pack, hydration carrier, US military hydration pack, water pack, travelers pack, water gear pack, water day pack, Army hydration pack, H20 hydration pack, camelback hydration packs, backpack hydration systems, tactical hydration packs, bike hydration systems, discount hydration packs, running hydration packs, emergency preparedness, emergency safety, emergency survival, and hydration packs for runners.

Insect Repellent

Insect Repellent

Insect repellent is a type of lotion or spray that is applied directly to the skin or clothing to keep unwanted insects from biting and crawling on you. Insect repellents help keep insects away that might be carrying diseases such as malaria, Lyme disease, Dengue fever, bubonic plague and the most common, West Nile Virus. One of the most commonly found substance in insect repellent is DEET. 100% DEET was found to offer up to 12 hours of protection while several lower concentration DEET formulations (20%-34%) offered 3-6 hours of protection. DEET is a chemical that was developed by the United States Army as the result of jungle warfare during World War II. DEET was first used by military personnel in 1946 and by 1957 it was available to the public. Insect repellent is an essential item to have when going camping, hiking, or for a hot summer night stroll to protect against unwanted bug bites. A test of various insect repellents by an independent consumer organization found that repellents containing DEET or picaridin are more effective than repellents with 'natural' active ingredients. All the synthetics gave almost 100% repellency for the first 2 hours, where the natural repellent products were most effective for the first 3060 minutes, and required reapplication to be effective over several hours. For protection against mosquitoes, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control issued a statement in May 2008 recommending DEET. Insect repelled can be referred to as mosquito control, pest control, off insect repellent, best insect repellent, deet, bens insect repellent, insect repellent natural, bug repellent, natural bug repellent, off bug repellent, natural fly repellent, house fly repellent, DEET-based repellant, mosquito repellent, emergency preparedness, emergency safety, emergency survival, and mosquito repellent for kids.

Military Can Openers

Military Can Openers

A can opener also known as a tin opener is a device used to open metal cans. The P-38 can opener is a small can opener issued in the canned field rations of the United States Armed Forces from World War II to the 1980s. Originally designed for and distributed in the K-ration, it was later included in the C-ration. It is smaller and lighter to carry then a standard can opener. The can opener is keychain-sized (about 1.5 inches, 38mm, in length) and consists of a short metal blade that serves as a handle (and also a screwdriver to the resourceful), with a small, hinged metal tooth that folds out to pierce the can lid. A notch just under the hinge point keeps the opener hooked around the rim of the can as the device is "walked" around to cut the lid out. A larger version called the P-51 is somewhat easier to operate. The most likely origin of the name is much more pedestrian; the P-38 is 38 mm (1.5 in) long.
