ECWCS, short for Extended/Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System is a clothing system developed by the United States Army Natick Solider Research to protect extreme weather conditions. Parkas and trousers were the first born of the ECWCS family, made with quality fit for a soldier, and over the years new products have been added to the ongoing list of ECWCS clothing. ECWCS clothing will protect against the coldest conditions, ranging from 40 to -60 Fahrenheit. Originally developed for the US military for the weather conditions they are subjected to, they are now also available for purchase by the general public. The 2nd generation (2G or Gen II) ECWCS apparel includes two different layers made with polartec fabrics.
