The boonie hat is a commonly worn hat by militaries that features a wide brim style. The brim size is approximately 3 long. The United States Military first introduced boonie hats when the Green Beret sector of the army began wearing them during the Vietnam War. The boonie hat began to be produced with insect nets to protect soldiers faces when they were in the jungle. The introduction of the boonie hat had replaced the caps previously being worn, fatigue hats. Boonie hats are still worn today by soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and by most international armed forces and paramilitaries.
