A mess kit is a collection of silverware and cookware. Mess kits supply you with pots and pans to cook over an open fire. Mess kits are portable and light, so they wont cause any strain while carrying. We offer both civilian mess kits and military mess kits. A civilian mess kit usually contains (among other items) a skillet, a kettle (which may also serve as a coffee pot), a plate, a cup, and cutlery. The first type of mess kit is a civilian mess kit, which may serve from one person to a family of eight. While its functionally is similar to a one-person civilian mess kit, military mess kits are designed to be even more compact, using their space as efficiently as possible. Thus lids will almost always be used for preparing, cooking, and/or eating, and usually come in two or three pieces. As such, it may sacrifice certain features, or use other features to complement it. Mess kits of almost any type may also include, or be complemented by sierra cups (also known as sierra mugs). These are compact drinking or eating vessels, usually no more than 10 cm (4 inches) wide and 5 cm (2 inches) deep. They are conical in shape, wider at the top, and typically constructed of stamped aluminum or stainless steel, with a looped wire handle. Utensils are portable and light, wont take up too much space in your pack because items are stored compactly by nesting them in other components. Such kits are typically constructed from aluminum, though enameled steel is also common, and some items (such as cutlery or plates) may be made of plastic. Any camping cookware made out of aluminum is lightweight, rust resistant, and warms up quicker than many other metals. A 3-piece chow kit generally consists of an interlocking knife, fork and spoon. A 4 and 5 piece chow kits are also available, that includes extra interlocking features such as a screwdriver or can opener.
